Victorian Health Promotion Foundation Board Appointments 2011 - Expressions of interest now closed

Expressions of Interest for positions on the VicHealth Board are now closed.

The Minister for Health, the Hon Daniel Andrews MP seeks expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the statutory positions of Members of the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) Board. Those interested must have a commitment to excellence in public health care and the skills and expertise to contribute to the governance of a complex health care organisation. 

VicHealth was established under the Tobacco Act (Victoria) 1987. The Board comprises eleven appointed Members, who are appointed by the Governor-in-Council, and three elected Parliamentary Members. 

The role of the Board, acting on behalf of the Minister for Health, is to ensure that VicHealth fulfils its statutory responsibilities and delivers its aims and outcomes while acting ethically and prudently, remaining within the law. This involves determining and approving corporate strategy, ensuring good governance and providing guidance and oversight to the Chief Executive Officer. Board Members are expected to attend meetings, act diligently, provide expert advice and represent VicHealth from time to time. 

Existing Members whose tenure expires may nominate for re­appointment. The categories of expertise required and number of positions are available as follows:

  • Business, management, communications and law (2 positions)
  • Health and illness prevention (2 positions)
  • Advertising (1 position)
  • Sports and sports administration (3 positions)
  • Arts or arts administration (1 position)

Appointments commence on 1 July 2011 and are for terms of 1, 3 or 5 years. The appointment of Members to VicHealth will be on the basis of merit, based on the capacity of the Member to add value to the work of the Board and to VicHealth’s statutory objectives. Selection criteria include:

  • continuing high level of performance in the relevant field of endeavour
  • individual integrity and high standing in the community
  • ability to think strategically
  • an understanding of the roles, duties and obligations of non-executive directors
  • ability to work as a member of a team
  • ability to represent VicHealth

Expressions of Interest must incorporate all of the following documents: 

  1. a CV and a cover letter, detailing your capacity to meet the selection criteria, nominating your category of expertise and listing two referees
  2. a completed CV summary form
  3. a completed Application form
  4. a completed Declaration of private interests
  5. a completed Proof of identity form (complete Sections 1 and 4 only, and attach/submit the relevant proof of identity)
  6. a completed Public sector employer declaration form (relevant only for applicants who are current public sector employees),
