VicHealth has developed a series of local government action guides that councils may consider when preparing their Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plans and other strategies. The guides outline recent solid research and some ideas for local action on ten public health topics.

As the world’s first health promotion foundation, VicHealth has over 20 years’ experience and a recognised track record in drawing diverse groups and sectors together to influence individuals’ health-related lifestyles, and to improve the social, cultural, economic and physical environments required to sustain health.

VicHealth's Strategy and Business Plan 2009-2013 features a particular focus on increasing participation in physical, social and economic environments, and the role they play in priority health issues. A key strategic priority aims to reduce health inequalities.
