Promoting projects and resources on the VicHealth website
The VicHealth website is primarily concerned with providing information on programs and projects managed or funded and contract-managed by VicHealth. It also promotes publications, resources and research reports created by VicHealth staff, or by commission.
There are some links from the main pages to partner organisations and relevant online resources produced by our funded/partner organisations; however, it does not currently operate as a referral site.
VicHealth has received requests from other organisations for us to ‘upload’ their reports, publications or resources – i.e. to provide promotional real estate on our site for materials that have not been produced by VicHealth or funded by VicHealth.
We anticipate increased requests for VicHealth to provide a link to other websites as well – i.e. act as a referral site.
This policy is to make clear the conditions under which VicHealth will provide real estate or carry referral links on its site.
Policy
VicHealth will consider requests from external organisations to ‘upload’ or promote their publications and resources, or to provide a link to their website if the request comes from:
- a funded organisation;
- an organisation that we have a strategic partnership with as long as the request relates to content that is relevant to that partnership;
- a government department and is related to programs, projects or health promotion activities that are relevant to our key health promotion action areas; or
- an international lead agency in public health (eg WHO or HDA)
VicHealth has a general position that it will not ‘upload’ or promote materials or provide a link to the website of organisations that do not fit any of the above categories.
Any request from external organisations should be vetted by VicHealth core health promotion program staff. The staff member most familiar with the organisation and/or the materials to be promoted will be asked to judge the merits of the request.
Generally the criteria for inclusion on the VicHealth website will include material that:
- is of high quality content and production values;
- has relevance to our health promotion action areas;
- is clearly branded and the author/publisher is identified; and
- represents current evidence, practice or policy.
