MOSAIC (community intervention trial)
MOSAIC is a community intervention trial to find out whether trained and supportive general practitioners and mentor mothers can reduce intimate partner abuse and depression.
The project, funded by VicHealth and the NH&MRC, aims to strengthen links between community-based family violence networks and GPs, which will enable the GPs to identify parents who are experiencing, or who are at risk of experiencing, partner abuse, and offer them support via mentors.
MOSAIC mentors make home visits. Their role is to offer support and provide links to resources and services in the wider community. Mentors will have specialised training in domestic violence and parenting skills.
The project is based in the disadvantaged inner north-western suburbs of Melbourne.
The research is being conducted at Mother and Child Health Research, La Trobe University.
