Healthy sporting environments

VicHealth has teamed up with the Barwon area Regional Sports Assembly,  Leisure Networks, to implement the $2 million Healthy Sporting Environments demonstration project for local sport clubs. The program is being implemented across five municipalities: Geelong, Queenscliff, Surf Coast, Colac and Golden Plains.

Participating sports clubs in the Geelong–Barwon region are addressing issues within their club, including:

  • responsible use of alcohol
  • healthy eating
  • reduced tobacco use
  • UV protection
  • creating safe and inclusive environments for women
  • reducing race-based discrimination.

The Healthy Sporting Environments demonstration project focuses on improving club culture to make club environments safe, accessible, inclusive and equitable.

Successful initiatives tested by clubs in the Geelong–Barwon region demonstration project will help to form a model for implementation in local sports clubs across Victoria, in partnership with other Regional Sports Assemblies.
