A Sporting Chance: The Inside Knowledge on Healthy Sports Clubs

What do healthy sports clubs have in common? Regardless of the sport played, successful clubs have a long, strong history, a commitment to including others, and a family and social focus. They value and reward members, communicate and promote regularly, and have policies that cover all bases, from sun protection to healthy food choices. They provide a valuable service to the local community and give people a place to go for physical and social health.

The Metro ACTIVE Program is intended to influence local governments to adopt an integrated planning approach to support residents to be physically active. VicHealth funded six councils under a two-level funding model, for two years. This report presents the findings of the Evaluation of the Metro ACTIVE Demonstration Grants Program from 2005 to 2007.

The Partnerships for Health scheme was implemented by VicHealth from July 2003 to June 2007. It funded 49 State Sporting Associations to increase participation in healthy and welcoming environments. This summary is based on an extensive evaluation undertaken by the University of Ballarat (School of Human Movement & Sports Sciences) between 2004 and 2006.

PICSAR scheme evaluation report

Evaluation of the Participation in Community Sport and Active Recreation program (PICSAR) set up by VicHealth to increase participation in physical activity. Nine Regional Sports Assemblies (RSAs) were funded via PICSAR to service 10 regional Victorian catchment areas. The amount of funding provided by VicHealth to the RSAs ranged from $75,000 to $97,683 per financial year. It was awarded over a four-year period (2002–03 to 2005–06).

School's Out, Get Active: Learnings from the Out of School Hours Sports Program

This publication summarises the findings from the evaluation of the Out of School Hours Sports Program. The evaluation was undertaken by the School of Human Movement and Sport Sciences at the University of Ballarat in 2005. Prepared by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and VicHealth, the report is available so that those involved in school sport and recreation programs at the local level can give their programs every chance of success.
