VicHealth is working with Victorian sporting organisations who are providing tailored participation opportunities for women and girls to get involved in sport and physical activity.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a newcomer or are more experienced – everyone is encouraged to participate and feel the physical and mental benefits of playing sport. With eight new activities on offer, you’re bound to find something that suits you.

Current programs

Netball Victoria

Rock Up Netball, developed by Netball Victoria aims to increase netball participation amongst mothers (particularly those with children school aged or younger) who may or may not have taken part in netball before. Through a licence model of delivery of Rock Up Netball, mothers across Victoria will have new, casual, ‘pay as you play’ opportunities to participate in fun, social and unstructured netball programs or competitions.

Cricket Victoria

Cricket Victoria has developed the Social Sixes program for less active females aged 18 -24. The program is designed for participants who love playing back yard cricket but do not want to play traditional club cricket. It will initially run in parks and public spaces with a focus on skill development and modified cricket games that will be enjoyable for any skill level. The emphasis will be on getting moving, socialising and having fun.

Surfing Victoria

Coasting is Surfing Victoria’s introductory Stand Up Paddle Boarding program (SUP) that aims to get more females active through SUP at coastal and inland locations across Victoria. Coasting aims to increase physical activity levels in less active females, particularly women aged 25+ (with no children). Over three sessions, participants will experience SUP in a fun, social and relaxed environment. Women will be also be taught the important basics of SUP to enable participants to enjoy SUP not only during but after the program is completed. Coasting will be offered via Surfing Victoria’s affiliated deliverers in both coastline and inland locations.

Bowls Victoria

Bowls Victoria has a new program that aims to get less active mothers with newborns active. This program will include fun, social and modified bowls activities for mums and separate activities for their children. This will enable mothers to focus on their physical activity needs during the program.

Football Federation Victoria

This soccer program aims to increase physical activity among mothers through small-sided, social football. Soccer skill development and basic fitness will also be part of the program. It will engage women, including women from a diverse community and will be delivered by Football Federation Victoria in partnership with Melbourne City Football Club. The program offers mothers a simple way to enjoy enhanced health and wellbeing, in a family friendly and fun environment. Mothers’ football teams will be established in football clubs and community groups across Victoria.

Touch Football Victoria

Touch Football Victoria is introducing an introductory program that aims to get less active women aged 25+ years (without children) active though a range of Touch Football based skills and activities. Participants will participate in a multi week fun, social touch football program to improve their health and wellbeing.

Ultimate Victoria

Ultimate Victoria’s new program encourages less active girls aged 12-17 to learn and play Ultimate Frisbee. Girls will be provided with fundamental frisbee skills in a fun, social and inclusive environment. They will also learn about spirit of the game and will develop valuable lifelong skills such as leadership, respect and conflict resolution.

Rugby Victoria

Rugby Victoria’s program aims to increase physical activity of less active girls aged 12 -17. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of Rugby 7s. This will be a fun, free flowing form of social rugby designed to provide participants with a non-contact rugby experience in a relaxed and social atmosphere. The program will have a strong focus on engaging less active girls from Polynesian heritage.
