Welcome to the 50th edition of the VicHealth Letter.
This milestone arrives as we move into the last four years of our 10-year Action Agenda, launched in 2013 and founded on the principle that health ‘happens’ everywhere. That notion drove us to strengthen and expand our cross-sector partnerships, and to work within that dynamic coalition to foster good health in the day-to-day spaces where people in our communities spend their time. The spirit of collaboration is present across this collection of articles, built around interviews with some of our most inspiring collaborators.
Since our inception, VicHealth has had the support of the major political parties in the Victorian Parliament. This broad-based endorsement has made it possible for us to pursue the sort of long-term initiatives that lead to lasting change.
It has also allowed us to take full advantage of the strengths and vision of successive leaders. Jerril Rechter, who departed VicHealth this year after seven years as CEO, helped transform the organisation to a strategic investor, and pioneered cross-sector alliances that were both imaginative and productive. We wish Jerril every success as CEO of Basketball Australia.
We are now in the hands of an extraordinary caretaker, Dr Lyn Roberts AO, who spent 13 years as CEO of the National Heart Foundation of Australia and has been recognised for her outstanding work in public health at a state, national and global level. Lyn has been a Principal Adviser at VicHealth in recent years and she has an excellent understanding of our work.
This is an exciting time for VicHealth, and for all of us working to improve the health and wellbeing of Victorians across the state. I hope that the articles you read here prove useful to you as you move forward with your own action plans for positive and sustainable change.
