VicHealth is saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dr Kevin Rowley.

Dr Rowley was a long-term academic partner of VicHealth through his role as a senior researcher within the former Onemda VicHealth Koori Health Unit (now the Indigenous Health Equity Unit) at The University of Melbourne.

Dr Rowley was the recipient of a VicHealth Public Health Fellowship in 2001, undertaking his important work in improving cardiovascular health in Aboriginal people until 2007.

Dr Rowley’s work in Aboriginal health is not just significant because of the critical issues it addressed, but so too because of his honest and open approach to his work.

Dr Rowley will be remembered for his commitment to community-led research and his work will serve as a demonstration of the values of health promotion in practice for many years to come.

The VicHealth board and staff extend our sincerest condolences to Dr Rowley’s family and colleagues at this very sad time.
