VicHealth partnered with The Big Picture Strategic Services to undertake the Healthy Club Canteens project. This pilot program was established to identify ways in which community sporting clubs can provide a range of healthy food options in their canteens or food outlets.

The Healthy Club Canteens evaluation report (2008-2010) outlines the approach taken to support club canteens to increase the proportion of healthy food choices available to players, officials and spectators at community sport. Health promotion or nutrition professionals who are either planning to, or are currently working with community sporting clubs will be interested in this report, which highlights the critical success factors to influencing the types of food offered in club canteens.

The Healthy Club Canteens kit is a practical resource for sporting club canteens that assists in making changes to the canteen menu to increase the amount of healthy food choices available. The kit includes information on healthy eating principles, the ‘traffic-light’ food guide and developing a healthy eating policy.
