History was created in 2016 when the St Kilda Football Club hosted the inaugural AFL Pride Game promoting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) inclusion.

The Pride Game and its accompanied media campaign was the culmination of more than two years of planning and community engagement by the St Kilda Football Club.

 An evaluation by La Trobe University’s Centre of Sport and Social Impact has revealed the campaign resulted in small but significant attitudinal changes among St Kilda FC staff, players, members and fans, and the wider LGBTIQ community. This evaluation summary highlights the attitude changes that resulted from the campaign, and shows the importance of long term commitments to change.
