VicHealth works to improve health and wellbeing by reducing health inequities through the community.

VicHealth’s ambition is for one million more Victorians to have better health and wellbeing by 2023. At the heart of this endeavour is an equitable Victoria, where all people have the opportunity for a healthy life.

Fair Foundations: The VicHealth framework for health equity makes the distinction between health inequalities and health inequities:

  • Health inequalities are differences in health status between population groups
  • Health inequities are differences in health status between population groups that are socially produced, systematic in their unequal distribution across the population, avoidable and unfair
