Why it's key to health promotion

Body

Physical activity is good for our health and wellbeing. But it's also good for our neighbourhoods and the economy. Whether it's a walk in the park or organised sport, there's a long list of benefits. To start with, it prevents chronic disease and improves mental wellbeing. But it can go on to create social connection and boost economic productivity. It can even reduce traffic and make neighbourhoods safer and more vibrant.

Creating new opportunities for physical activity

Body

You need a certain amount of physical activity to enjoy the health benefits. But less than a third of Australians are getting this.

This increases the risks of chronic disease and mental ill health. It also costs the Australian economy an estimated $13.8 billion each year.

That's why we focus on creating new opportunities for Victorians to participate in physical activity. To do this, with partner with sports, active travel and recreation agencies, the arts, and workplaces.
