VicHealth Partnership Grants provide support for new projects that promote health and wellbeing across our state.
Partnership Grants Round 1 (2019-20)
VicHealth’s first Partnership Grant round closed in February 2020. Grants ranging from $15,000 to $150,000 were awarded to 22 organisations who shared in approximately $2 million of funding.
An additional $469,924 was awarded to 153 sporting clubs through the Active Club Grant stream. Find out more.
Ideas Partnership Grants
This grant stream encouraged applicants to think laterally about who they could work with to deliver practical, easy-to-implement ideas to benefit the Victorian community.
Eight projects were selected for funding and will be delivered over 12 months.
Growing for Good – The Community Grocer
This project will support the expansion of The Community Grocer (TCG). As a result of COVID-19, TCG will initially focus on continuing to support communities to access affordable fresh fruit and vegetables through existing markets. They will then expand operations by increasing the capacity of existing markets, establishing a centralised distribution centre and investigating a new market or delivery box scheme to provide more people with greater access to fresh produce.
Maribyrnong Mentoring & Koori Youth Group – Strong Brother Strong Sister
Assisting Aboriginal young people to achieve their dreams and aspirations is the focus of Strong Brother Strong Sister’s work. This Aboriginal-owned enterprise is bringing their approach based on creating opportunities for positive educational experiences, attainable role modelling, and tailored 1:1 mentoring to a new metro-based cohort.
During the coronavirus crisis SBSS have adapted to online delivery models that can help combat loneliness and isolation while promoting healthy lifestyles as young people navigate these difficult times.
Social Connection with Purpose – Youth Affairs Council Victoria
The YACVic Social Connection with Purpose project will strengthen young people’s voices and their leadership in local community issues. In partnership with Reach Foundation and local councils, YACVic will support young people from five Victorian regions to grow their social connections, confidence and skills to advocate for a better future. YACVic will also continue to help VicHealth bring young people’s voices into health promotion programs and policy.
Healthy Canteens – South Metro Junior Football League
SMJFL will improve the availability of healthy food and drinks in all 25 club canteens. A dedicated public health dietitian will provide support for clubs to create healthier food and drink menus through the delivery of workshops, food procurement and the development of resources and promotional material.
Pop-Up Sports Street Games Program – Reclink Australia
Reclink will deliver a variety of participation opportunities, utilising targeted pop-up sports and socially inclusive recreation programs to disadvantaged groups in the Cardinia catchment, with a focus on increased participation and emphasis on activating unused sport and recreation spaces.
Bicycle Recycling and Engagement for Active Kids at Schools – Dr Cranky’s
The BREAKS project will get more kids and families riding by recycling bicycles and distributing to those who need them. Dr Cranky’s will engage with school communities in metro and regional areas to establish and support a network of volunteer-run “bicycle hospitals” which will offer training, free repairs, parts, recycled bikes, helmets and locks to those that need them.
Hallmark events – Pride Cup Australia
Pride Cup Australia will partner with state sporting organisations, Hockey Victoria and AFL Victoria, to deliver Pride Cup Hallmark events around Victoria, with a focus on delivering in areas affected by the recent bush fires.
These events will be a celebration of diversity, showcasing how Pride Cup uses sport as a powerful platform to increase LGBTI+ inclusion into regional communities, assisting to breakdown the unique barriers that LGBTI+ people face when it comes to participation in local sporting environments.
Point + Be Proud – St Kilda Football Club
In a single moment during an April 1993 football game Nicky Winmar changed the sporting landscape of Australia. His assertion of Aboriginal pride is one of the iconic images in the history of the AFL. A new documentary by Dickson Films will explore the impact and legacy of Winmar’s stand against racism, and how discrimination affects the mental health of those who experience it.
The film will be distributed to schools to teach students about the importance of rejecting racism and bullying.
