About this survey

The data used in the Explore Your Data website comes from the VicHealth Indicators Survey 2015 which focussed on the health and wellbeing of Victorians. It complements other population health survey work conducted in Victoria. Data was collected through telephone interviews. The survey was conducted in each of Victoria’s 79 local government areas (LGAs), with a total sample of 22,819 participants aged 18 and over. The sample size for most LGAs was approximately 300, with a reduced sample size of 200 in the 10 least populous LGAs. A table of the actual achieved sample sizes for each LGA can be found below.

Weighting

Data has been weighted by age, gender and telephone status within each local government area (LGA). Crude rates, also known as non-standardised rates, are shown here to help inform localised planning. Crude rates are not appropriate for comparisons between individual LGAs, as estimates have not been age-standardised and differences may be due, at least in part, to differing age profiles.

Empty cells

Empty cells within tables signify either no respondents for that particular cell, or too few respondents to be robust estimates. The minimum number of respondents to be represented in this table is 20.

Sample base and response options

The respondent base in most instances comprises of the entire sample, including respondents who selected ‘Don’t know’ as their response or refused to answer the particular question. The overview document in the ‘Indicators and Survey Questions’ section details the base and exclusions for each indicator.

‘Don’t know’ and ‘Refused’ percentages are not displayed here but still considered in the calculation of the displayed categories.

Interpretation

All data displayed here are aggregate estimates and do not represent individuals. Caution is advised when interpreting the tables as the interface at present does not display confidence intervals or other measures of variability in the data.
