Members of the Loose Cannons, an amateur touch football team, will have their wishes granted this Thursday evening, as they get the one-off money-can’t-buy experience of training with footy legends.

Robbie Kearns and several Melbourne Storm players will host a touch football clinic for the team at Albert Park.

This event is part of a series of special events to promote VicHealth’s TeamUp app – the best new way for Victorians to find and join sports and physical activities with others.

VicHealth’s TeamUp is a simple, free, way for Victorians to get together and try something new or play the sports they love: from competitive basketball to barefoot bowls, to roller derby or walking groups.

Download the app, go through the simple registration process and list your activity with an invite for others to join or start browsing the hundreds of activities already listed.

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said that since its launch in April, TeamUp now has more than 6,000 users.

“As part of the joining the TeamUp community, dozens of money can’t buy experiences are on offer. These include today’s event and a range of others which are communicated to members via the app,” Ms Rechter said.

“So far TeamUp members have had the opportunity to ride waves with surfing legends, get pro-tips from their rugby heroes, conduct the coin toss at a national netball game and kick the soccer ball with legends.

“It’s a fun way to get fit and caters for all ability levels, from total beginner to sporting ninja."

TeamUp gives Victorians a more flexible approach to getting active, with plenty of options to try something new and meet new people in their neighbourhoods.

TeamUp has been developed by VicHealth, who is partnering with the YMCA, Melbourne Rebels, Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Vixens, Melbourne Heart, Melbourne Tigers and Surfing Victoria to encourage Victorians to get out and get active.
