VicHealth’s Physical Activity Unit, in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) and Playgroups Victoria, brought to Melbourne Tim Gill, one of the UK’s leading thinkers on developing resilient children. Tim discusses the benefits of getting children out and about in their neighbourhood, playing outside, building connections with the people and places around them. Tim’s visit provides an opportunity to raise awareness of benefits of giving children rich, challenging, active and increasingly independent opportunities in their daily lives. This requires parents, teachers, and governments to adopt a balanced approach to risk, one that recognises the great benefits in expanding children’s horizons.
