Feeling like you belong and being part of a group are intrinsic to better mental health and wellbeing. We now know that social isolation can have a negative effect on your health.
We are social creatures, and our social connections include the people we know; friends we confide in, the family we belong to and the community we live in. Are you part of a sporting team, volunteer effort or regular social activity?
Ideas for getting connected:
- join a community group, church, service club, or professional or political association
- participate in social activities with your family, friends and community groups
- volunteer – opportunities include gardening, assisting others, working with animals and more. Volunteers gain work experience, skills, personal satisfaction and new friendships and support networks. For ideas on how to get involved go to: www.volunteer.vic.gov.au.
