That’s why we’re extending our work with 3 Victorian councils to create greater community safety, health and wellbeing - by reducing alcohol-related harm in our neighbourhoods. And to create safer and healthier community environments across Victoria. These councils have developed action plans for their local communities, and will share in a pool of $120K to deliver their ideas, including community engagement and local business partnerships. They will be joining 4 councils funded from 2023 to continue to implement their alcohol harm preventions in their local communities. We will build the capabilities of councils through: VicHealth Local Government Partnership modules Dedicated communities of practice Training and mentorship from Alcohol and Drug Foundation Title 2024-2025 Recipients Body 2024-2025 Local Council Plans: Mount Alexander Shire Council - Alcohol Harm Prevention Project Moorabool Shire Council – Alcohol Harm Prevention Through Policy and Education: The project will focus on policy development to prevent alcohol sponsorship and consumption within junior sports, at council venues and for Community Grant recipients. The council will also support the delivery of alcohol prevention training to young people within education and sports settings and the wider Moorabool community. City of Greater Bendigo – Healthy Greater Bendigo – Healthy Facilities: The City will launch a community consultation to extend its Healthy Facilities policy to include the reduction of alcohol product consumption and promotion. The City will also support community groups to offer alternate drink options at a variety of events. Title 2023-2024 Recipients Body Maribyrnong City Council – The Reducing Harm from Alcohol Project: The Reducing Harm from Alcohol Project (RHAP) will work in partnership with young people, community members, council employees, business owners and sporting clubs to create training programs that increase the understanding of alcohol-fuelled harm, including its impact on mental and physical health. Wodonga City Council – Tackling Alcohol Harm Together: Wodonga Council will co-create campaigns on alcohol-related harm in Wodonga targeted at young people and people disproportionately affected by structural barriers. Moorabool Shire Council – Alcohol Harm Prevention Through Policy and Education: The project will focus on policy development to prevent alcohol sponsorship and consumption within junior sports, at council venues and for Community Grant recipients.
